Prince charming

-

■ WHILE the young king-after-next George and his sister Princess Charlotte, right, were beautifully behaved for what was a very long funeral service, I assume their younger brother Prince Louis – who frequently behaves like a real child in public – was kept locked in a tower for the duration.

■ THE much-admired statue of aviators Alcock and Brown in Clifden reminds us how impressed people were when men first took to the skies. Mind you, given how apparently difficult aviation has now become, perhaps we should consider dedicating a statue to the rare person who manages to get on and off a plane on time and without losing their luggage – or their mind.

■ FINE GAEL senator Tim Lombard has warned that ‘cows won’t be milked till midnight’ under new energy efficiency rules. If farmers need further energy-saving tips, they should look to Co. Clare’s agricultural community, who Marty Morrissey famously declared wouldn’t milk a cow for a fortnight after the Banner County won the 1992 Munster football final against Kerry.

■ LISTENING to Morning Ireland yesterday, my ears deceived me when I thought the newsreader advised people attending the Ploughing Championships this week to ‘follow silage’. What he actually said was ‘follow signage’. Though I’d imagine if you do follow silage, you’ll most likely end up in Ratheniska anyway.

■ FOOTAGE of a Garda car being rammed in Cherry Orchard at least shows an encouraging level of home ownership for young people in the area. At least, I presume all those feral youngsters are home owners; the alternative – that so many parents could have stayed indoors and done nothing – is too shocking to contemplate.
