Next in Line for a Late Late debut – Louis’ new band

- By Liam de Brún

LOUIS Walsh is once again bringing a new boyband to the Late Late Show as he tries to recreate Boyzone’s infamous debut on the chat show with his new group.

The new boyband, Next in Line, will be joining Ryan Tubridy on tonight’s programme as Walsh seeks to recreate the magic of nearly 30 years ago.

In 1993, Walsh brought the unknown Boyzone onto the Late Late Show in a moment still talked about to this day – much to the chagrin of some band members.

Ronan Keating, Stephen Gately, Shane Lynch, Keith Duffy and Mikey Graham introduced themselves (along with Dickie Rock’s son Richie and Mark Walton) to Gay Byrne and the Irish public with an unforgettable routine. In what could only be described as one of Irish TV’s oddest moments, the awkward dance moves and bizarre outfits put Boyzone on the map.

But Shane Lynch famously took issue with the video being replayed when Boyzone appeared on the show in 2018, telling Tubridy: ‘You see that clip, you can shove it up your f***ing hole.’

Walsh will of course be hoping that his new band are indeed next in line to become Ireland’s newest music sensation and avoid joining the list of his acts that didn’t quite crack the big time. Elsewhere on the show, Succession star Brian Cox will discuss how he managed to become one of the biggest actors in TV when he entered his 70s. Tubridy said: ‘I’m so excited to see him in the flesh. He’s a gentleman, a Scot and a proud republican. It will be very interesting to talk to him. What an actor.’

Meanwhile Former Spice Girl Melanie C will be talking about her new autobiography, Who I Am, and what it was like to be part of one of the ’90s biggest bands.

Singer-songwriter Paul Brady will reflect on a career which saw him perform with Tina Turner in front of an Irish audience, teach Bob Dylan how to play The Lakes of Pontchartrain – and find success after being penniless.
