Sixty years of Bond memorabilia for sale
IT’S rather scratched and the previous owner wasn’t an especially careful driver, but this Aston Martin DB5 could be about to fetch €2.2million when it comes up for auction tomorrow.
That’s because it was driven by James Bond in a dramatic car chase in last year’s blockbuster No Time To Die.
Daniel Craig, in his last appearance as 007, whisked the sports car round the tight corners and cobbled streets of the southern Italian city of Matera, unleashing its machine guns and releasing a smoke screen to shake off the villains.
The replica DB5 stunt car is going under the hammer in a charity auction at Christie’s in London to mark the 60th anniversary of James Bond on screen. The vehicle includes the mocked-up side panel damage as well as upgraded suspension and brakes so it could cope with Bond’s driving.
It is one of 60 items, including other cars and a Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE stunt motorcycle, up for grabs. Some of the items are being sold in a live auction and others in an online sale. Lots include a pair of Omega automatic wristwatches, which could fetch as much as €66,000, as well as two separate Omegas which could fetch €22,000 each.
There’s a Swarovski green enamel and gold-plated prop Fabergé egg from 1983 hit Octopussy.
The egg, made by jewellers Asprey’s of London, has an estimate of €6,600-€11,000.
A Tom Ford suit worn by Craig in No Time to Die could sell for €33,000, while a black singlebreasted dinner jacket and trousers, worn by Timothy Dalton in 1989’s Licence to Kill, could fetch up to €11,000.
The mask and snow suit worn by Rami Malek as Safin in No Time To Die has an estimate of €9,000€13,000. There’s also a skeleton puppet which featured in Spectre (2015) in a scene where Bond is caught up in the Day of the Dead festival in Mexico City.
Lots for the online auction include signed song scores, clapperboards and Bond posters.
Proceeds will go to 45 charities including the British Red Cross.
