NEXT year’s Academy Awards could have a very green tinge with several Irish stars tipped to be in the running for Oscars.

Jessie Buckley, Kerry Condon, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson have been listed among the favourites to get nominations for acting gongs.

And Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees Of Inisherin is a ‘frontrunner’ to get a Best Picture nod.

The Hollywood Reporter’s executive editor of awards, Scott Feinberg, predicted what the Academy will put forward for the 95th awards next March.

The Banshees Of Inisherin stars Farrell and Gleeson are among his frontrunners in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories respectively. Another of the film’s Irish stars, Ms Condon, is considered a ‘major threat’ for a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category while Women Talking’s Ms Buckley is a frontrunner for the same award, according to Feinberg.

McDonagh, the British-Irish writer and director of The Banshees Of Inisherin, has been put forward as a ‘major threat’ for Best Director and a frontrunner for Best Original Screenplay. McDonagh and Farrell were among the winners at the Venice International Film Festival earlier this month.

The Banshees Of Inisherin, due for cinema release on October 21, follows the dark tale of two lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their friendship.

Women Talking, based on the novel of the same name by Miriam Toews, deals with women who struggle in the aftermath of sexual assaults in their religious colony.

The Oscar nominations will be revealed on January 24.
