Nato is simply using Ukraine as a proxy for US imperialism

-

QUITE recently, signatories to the Minsk peace agreements 1&2, which guaranteed Ukraine’s borders, revealed something very underhand.

Former German chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany and France had delayed the peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine so that the Ukrainian army could be trained to Nato standard and fit for purpose in any war with Russia after 2014.

So the terrible sectarian violence unleashed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Donbas region since 2014 wasn’t really of any interest to Nato. So Putin, who had entered dialogue in good faith, was played by the West.

On learning of a huge push planned by the Ukrainian army on the Donbas and its RussianUkrainian population in late 2021, Putin had to defend the Russian Ukrainians who didn’t want to be a part of the Zelensky government – a government that came about by huge civil unrest which others call a coup, a government that bans the Russian Orthodox Church, Russian language and books, and celebrates a Nazi, Stepan Bandera, who worked alongside the SS in murdering Jews and Poles.

People should understand that Russia defeated Nazi Germany, ended the Azerbaijan Armenian conflict, and helped bury the Islamic State and Al Qaeda in Syria. Russia has no interest in taking over Moldova, Poland or the Baltics – it is a huge country with huge natural resources.

Nato, on the other hand, has moved closer to the Russian Federation every year.

Russia is entitled to peace and security and as such Nato was always going to use Ukraine as a proxy to try to weaken Russia, along with the sanctions applied by the US and EU. We Europeans are suffering because of misinformation regarding the reasons for this conflict. Russia has continued to sell its oil and gas reserves to India, China and to Europe through the Turkstream pipeline.

That’s the sad reality of the US empire wanting to continue its world hegemony. We are entering a new world in which one country cannot and will not be allowed to dictate policy. DAVID PRICE, Lucan, Co. Dublin
