Fraser hits back to keep Wolves in the hunt

- TOM COLLOMOSSE at Molineux

IF FA CUP replays will soon be a thing of the past, then Wolves and Brentford ensured they were given a superb send-off. Bees boss Thomas Frank is among those who want ties to be settled at the first time of asking but his side played their part in an entertaining tussle for the right to meet Wolves’ Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion in round four. Brentford led twice through Nathan Collins and Neal Maupay but were pegged back by Nelson Semedo and 18-year-old Nathan Fraser, ensuring the match at Molineux went into extra time. This was Brentford’s final game without Ivan Toney, who is clear to return against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday following his ban for gambling offences. Brentford took the lead when former Wolves defender Collins swept in after Kristoffer Ajer’s shot had been saved. Pablo Sarabia missed a great chance to equalise for Wolves but Semedo did so nine minutes before half-time when he turned home Matheus Cunha’s cross at the second attempt. The visitors regained the lead early in the second half. After more poor defending, Maupay scored from close range. He was ruled offside but the goal was awarded following a VAR check. Fraser drew Wolves level again three minutes after coming on with a crisp, angled finish. Brentford substitute Shandon Baptiste put a good chance over before Fraser was denied his second by Ben Mee. Keane Lewis-Potter should have given the Bees the lead again only to fluff a far-post header, before Semedo fired wide for the home side.
