It’s Coat Moss!

Champagne cocktails, blue lobster salad, Neil Young at full volume... Kate rocks Paris for 50th and swaps capes with pal to beat the icy cold

SHE is close friends with many of the biggest names in the fashion world.

So it seemed fitting that Kate Moss chose to switch coats with one of her famous friends to beat the cold during her birthday celebrations in Paris. The supermodel and her crew enjoyed a night of Michelin-star food, dancing to Neil Young and champagne cocktails in the exclusive Laurent restaurant to celebrate her 50th. She partied alongside boyfriend Nikolai von Bismarck, 37, daughter Lila, 21, and the fashion world’s elite in a soiree which sources say cost up to €110,000. Despite her new-found spirituality and alcohol-free lifestyle, it was far from a sedate affair. The group took over the entire Michelin-star venue and transformed it into their personal nightclub, complete with a dancefloor and makeshift catwalk. Sadie Frost, a fellow former member of the Primrose Hill set, designer Stella McCartney, tennis star Venus Williams, British Vogue editor Edward Enninful and make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury were among the guests. The group of around 30 were so loud in the restaurant’s smoking area that passers-by stopped to peer in. Ms Moss arrived at the venue at 9.10pm with Von Bismarck, as well as Lila and her boyfriend Yoni Helbitz, having travelled from their base at the Ritz. Ms Moss was wearing a vintage sheer black lace dress and black satin cape, which she later swapped for Ms Tilbury’s warmer vintage 1984 Bob Mackie coat with a fur-trimmed collar. Meanwhile, Ms McCartney, 52, was seen braving the cold without a coat on. Ms Moss started her evening catching up with friends and was heard shouting ‘I haven’t seen you in ages’ in the candle-lit smoking area of the venue – where she proceeded to share anecdotes about Mick Jagger.

The group then ate at the lavish restaurant, known for its mousseline brioche with golden caviar and blue lobster salad, prepared by head chef Mathieu Pacaud, washed down with a €27 Laurent Spritz – the house champagne cocktail.

It was when a Neil Young song started playing that the party really got going, with his 1992 track Harvest Moon cranked up to full volume at 10.30pm.

The speakers weren’t turned down for a full hour, with songs including Baby Love by The Supremes, Sympathy For

‘Much screeching in the foyer’

The Devil by The Rolling Stones and David Bowie’s Rebel Rebel blasting. Other songs played included Blondie’s Rapture and a remix of Everything She Wants by Wham.

Those walking past the restaurant, puzzled by the blaring music and rowdy party on a Tuesday night, paused and attempted to get a look in through the fence. At one point, the fashion stars turned the smoking area into their own runway and gave their best walks for their friends to critique.

The guests flitted in and out of the smoking area and back into the restaurant with Lila and boyfriend Helbitz left alone at one stage to dance to Hot Stuff by The Rolling Stones.

Ms Moss danced non-stop from 10.30pm to 2am and Ms McCartney had to be reluctantly dragged away from the dancefloor, protesting ‘but everyone’s in there’.

Former tennis star Ms Williams, 42, was the first to leave at 2am as she emerged from the venue and climbed into a taxi alone. She was followed by Ms McCartney. Ms Moss was one of the last to leave the venue after much screeching in the foyer with the last friends standing. She piled into the back of a six-seater taxi with Lila, Von Bismarck, Helbitz and a bodyguard.

When asked if she’d had a fun evening, Ms Moss remained tight-lipped, staying true to her long-time mantra: ‘Never complain, never explain.’

Earlier in the day, she had enjoyed lunch with her boyfriend and daughter at Brasserie Lipp, where they ate oysters and drank strawberry lemonade.

She unwrapped presents during the lunch, including a shirt, a necklace and a bracelet, according to onlookers.

The supermodel flew to the French capital from Oxford, where she lives, via private jet which seats up to seven guests on Monday.

She enjoyed a rather less rowdy prebirthday celebration on the Caribbean island of Mustique with friends such as model-turned-nutritionist Rosemary Ferguson, stylist Katy England, fashion casting director Jess Shallet, florist Flora Starkey and designer Jess Morris.

Ms Frost shared photos from the lean-living girls’ trip. Ms Moss was seen posing in a bohemian black dress, floral crown and necklace and with no makeup on as she sat crossed-legged on the white sand underneath palm trees.

After years of partying, the supermodel is said to be teetotal 80% of the time and has launched her own wellness brand, Cosmoss. She recently admitted she now loves transcendental meditation, drinking herbal teas and visiting spas all over the world.
