Yogi Maura aims to have Apprentice boss Sugar bending over backwards

- By Philip Downes

A YOGA teacher who wants to make her business a household name is set to face Alan Sugar as she takes part in BBC show The Apprentice. But will he say ‘you’re hired’ or ‘you’re fired’ to Wexford woman Maura Rath, who promotes positivity and well-being? ‘I hear back that my business brings some people a little bubble of self-love,’ said Maura, from Killenagh, when asked what her biggest business success was. ‘It helps some people with that winter dread, and people move stronger and more freely than before.’ Not all of her ventures are successful, however, with her biggest lesson learnt when she tried to have a custom app for her business. ‘My biggest lesson was buying into the hype and the sales pitch of a custom app, which was an expensive experiment and wasn’t the best experience for me or my customers,’ she said. ‘All this learning was poured into my new mobile-friendly website, which is working great.’ Other interests of Maura’s include swimming in the Irish Sea, rain or shine. ‘I am obsessed with sea swimming and cold water dipping and actually prefer the colder months,’ she said. As to why she should be given investment by Mr Sugar, 76, she said: ‘Because my business promotes positivity and well-being, in a profitable and scalable way with five income streams.’ Maura has built her social media presence with her yoga business, gaining almost 40,000 Instagram followers. ‘I have big plans to make Yoga With Maura a household name, which is why I’m going for investment from Lord Sugar,’ she wrote on the platform. The Apprentice airs Thursday, February 1 on BBC1.
