‘Old’ whiskey campaign is now history

-

A whiskey distillery was rapped by advert watchdogs for boasting about ‘150 Years of History’... yet it has only been in business since 2013.

The Connacht Distillery, in Ballina, Co. Mayo, was advised to ‘take care in future advertising’ by the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland.

A complainant ‘considered the advertisement misleading on the basis that it implied the distillery had been in operation for 150 years’, the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland (ASAI) reported.

In response to the complaint, the distillery told the ASAI that it was ‘never their intention to mislead’.

A complaint about boosting your sex life from Keith’s Cacao chocolate has been partially upheld by the watchdog.

The socialmedia campaign says ‘Did you know that Ceremonial Cacao can help you feel more sexually confident?’ above a video of a woman reclining. It claims it can ‘inspire you... to feel more selfassured and sexy!’

The complainant believed the ad ‘played upon insecurities women may have concerning their sexual health’ and ‘objectified women as sex objects’.

The advertisers did not agree with the complainant’s assessment ‘but did not elaborate as to why they disagreed’, the ASAI noted.

There was no response from the company yesterday.

Brewer Budweiser was also admonished over an ad claiming: ‘Since January 2021, every single can, bottle, and keg of Budweiser imported into ROI is now brewed with electricity from solar and wind sources.’

Its also claimed it was ‘bringing 100% renewable electricity to 100 Irish pubs over the next year’. However, SF Senator Lynn Boylan objected to the claim the beer was brewed using 100% renewable electricity as ‘no evidence had been provided’.

She also objected to the claim about bringing renewable electricity to 100 Irish pubs as they did not state how the pubs were going to be powered by solar electricity. Budweiser was contacted for comment.
