Two held over Christmas Eve murder of steakhouse gunman
TWO men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Tristan Sherry, who was killed during a Christmas Eve shooting incident.
Both men were detained by investigating gardaí yesterday morning, bringing the total number of arrests in the investigation to nine.
Two men and a 17-year-old male have since been charged with murder in relation to the 26-year-old’s death, while a number of others have been charged with separate offences.
A Garda spokesman said: ‘Both males are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Garda stations in west Dublin.’
On December 24, Sherry went into Browne’s steakhouse in Blanchardstown, Dublin, and opened fire with a machine pistol. Jason Hennessy Sr, 48, was wounded, while Sherry was overpowered and killed.
Hennessy Sr died in hospital a week after the shooting.
There was a heavy Garda presence in Finglas, Dublin, during the funeral Mass for Sherry earlier this month amid fears of a retaliation attack.
Approximately 50 members of the young man’s friends and family filled the front rows of St Canice’s Church, including his mother Mary, sister Savanna and baby daughter Aria. Hennessy Sr, who had been facing a money-laundering trial next year, was shot in the neck while enjoying a meal with a family member.
He was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown by a relative, where he was stabilised.
However, as his condition worsened, he was transferred to Dublin’s Mater Hospital and died on January 4.
It is understood he was part of an organised crime gang, which is involved in a bitter feud in Finglas and Corduff, Blanchardstown.
Both sides have been inflicting attacks on the other since 2019 and gardaí fear an all-out war between the two factions following the incident.
