A Rash mistake

-

THE description by the Mail of the errant Manchester United and England footballer Marcus Rashford – a £375,000 per-week, fiveyear contract, arriving at the United training ground in his £200,000 Lamborghini Urus – says it all about modern footballers, many of whom are overpaid and overrated.

What a far cry from the days of another Manchester United player, Duncan Edwards, the colossus from Dudley, who so tragically died aged only 21, days after the 1958 Munich Air Disaster. How much was Edwards paid? £15 per week during the season and £12 per week during the summer. How did Edwards travel to and from training? On his Raleigh bicycle.

Rashford should be ashamed, although I rather doubt it. He is not fit to lace the boots of players like Edwards.

…MORE than £300,000 a week and Marcus Rashford doesn’t show up for work?

That’s an insult to his club, his team, and fans alike: perhaps a loan spell in a struggling lower league club might help to focus his mind on what should be his priority – club and country first and foremost.

At 26, he’s too old for avoidable mistakes in behaviour.

On the football pitch, it appears his mind’s elsewhere. Only he can put that right. May he find what he wants.

…WHO would want to be a Premier League manager these days?

Managing young people in any walk of life has never been easy. Imagine how much more if they were earning wages in excess of £300,000 per week, on a long contract. It reiterates how out of control football is now. Love the game, hate what it’s become.

…WHAT an idiotic statement from Manchester United regarding the behaviour of their errant player Marcus Rashford: ‘He has taken responsibility for his actions.’ If he hadn’t, then who the devil would? Beyond parody.
