Forgotten to buy a Valentine’s present? You’re not alone

- BY MAEVE QUIGLEY

TODAY is a big day for lovers but if, with all the pancakes and so on, it slipped your mind then you are not alone. New research from Just Eat has revealed that 28 per cent of us have rushed to get a gift for their partner at the last minute, and another 15 per cent have forgotten to buy one completely.

Of those polled for the Just Eat research, 70% are in a relationship, and three quarters of those will celebrate Valentine’s Day in some form.

As it’s midweek then it’s no surprise that 40 per cent of us will spend the night at home. But one in ten couples won’t bother celebrating the big romance day at all.

Reasons differ but some cite the fact that the day has become too commercialised and the majority of naysayers reckon that they are just not into Valentine’s at all.

Love it or not, it’s been a day where some people have been prone to tell a fib, with 17 per cent admitting to lying to avoid awkward questions. Dating apps have been used by 29 per cent and of those, 12 per cent confess to telling a lie on their profile.

Despite having a significant other, five percent will be spending Valentine’s Day with their pet instead and Just Eat promises no matter who you are spending the day with, it can deliver.

When it comes to dating, many people have become the masters of their own love life, and are empowering themselves to spend their free time exactly the way they want to.

Unsurprisingly then, according to the Just Eat research, 35 per cent feel they come up with better date ideas than people they are dating.

But the good news is that romance isn’t dead, according to the Just Eat research. People’s expectations of what would be the most romantic gestures that they could receive from their partner are clear. Cooking or ordering food (43 per cent), displays of affection (39 per cent), a good gift (38 per cent), and a surprise of the perfect date (38 per cent) are top of that list.

But even doing the grocery shopping is enough for 8 per cent of respondents. If you are a Last-Minute Larry Just Eat can deliver either food or their new grocery range today to your own home, see justeat.ie to save your own bacon.
