Game, set, match! Becker to marry for third time

- By Sam Merriman

BORIS Becker looks to be leaving his prison woes behind him as the disgraced tennis champion is set to marry for a third time.

The 56-year-old, three-time Wimbledon winner is engaged to his PR guru girlfriend, 33, following a ‘secret proposal’, according to German media.

Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro stuck by Mr Becker after he spent eight months in Wandsworth Prison. He was given a two-and-a-half-year sentence for hiding €3million in assets to avoid his debts.

Following his release in December 2022, the tennis ace declared Ms Monteiro, a former political risk analyst, to be the ‘love of his life’ and said he ‘survived because of her love’.

Rumours of an engagement circulated last summer but German celebrity magazine Bunte has reported the pair are planning their wedding for later this year.

Becker reportedly lives with Ms Monteiro in a ‘beautiful apartment’ in ‘the heart’ of Milan.

Ms Monteiro comes from the small African island of Sao Tome and Principe, and is thought to have three degrees and speak five languages. Her father, Victor Monteiro, served as the country’s defence minister and unsuccessfully ran for the presidency in 2014, according to German tabloid Bild.

Becker is barred from re-entering Britain, where his second wife Lilly Becker, 47, and their 12-year-old son Amadeus live. Less than two years ago she said the pair were ‘very much’ still married despite their split.

Mr Becker’s first marriage, to Barbara Becker, lasted eight years. They separated in 2001 after he had an affair while she was pregnant with theirsecond child.
