WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND

JACKET DILEMMAS

TO say we are obsessed with the weather is nothing if not predictable. Which is more than can be said for the blistering cold currently hitting the country.

After all, in the last week, it’s been balmy enough for late spring... and that mild weather is set to return.

So the single most important item in your wardrobe right now is a transitional jacket.

What to get though? Blazers are all well and good, but won’t withstand much weather, and the same applies for bombers, which are having their moment in the low winter sun.

No, there is really only one jacket style to bridge the seasons and that’s a classic leather biker.

Look for floral patterns on a dark background to see you through until spring

DESIGNER INSPIRED

FOR some of us biker jackets never went away, but there is a lot of talk about them being a staple for spring 2024 wardrobes. That’s thanks to Prada, which sent gloriously grungy designs down the spring/summer catwalk in Paris.

But for me, the classic shape will always win. Fashion folk love to talk about pieces that you’ll be wearing for years to come and a biker jacket really is one of them.

Buy right, buy once. So, keep it simple and if you can square it with your principles, and your wallet, then go for real leather.

DRESS IT UP

YES, real leather options are expensive, but they are built to last and, like all of us (she tells herself), just get better with age. Of course, you can get the same look at a fraction of the price if you go for a faux design, like the M&S one below.

How to wear yours? It goes without saying that it works well with jeans, and, of course, a classic white T-shirt. Until the weather improves you may want to layer yours over a thick cashmere jumper so think about sizing up if necessary.

?? ?? Layer your necklaces — begin with delicate shorter styles
Don’t worry about wearing your jacket in light rain, it’ll soften the leather
Invest in a pair of musthave leather loafers
