Snyman back with a bang in Reds romp

- By JAMES MURRAY

RG SNYMAN made a successful return for Munster as Graham Rowntree’s clinical side ensured Scarlets’ poor run against Irish provinces continued, inflicting a ninth consecutive defeat on the Welsh side, 42-7 in the URC in Llanelli. The giant South African second row has been out injured since helping the Springboks to World Cup glory last autumn and his return had been eagerly anticipated following the news that he would be leaving the province to join arch-rivals Leinster at the end of the season. Snyman has emphasised how he wants to help the URC champions as much as possible before he departs, as a reward for Munster’s patience during his extended time on the sideline, and last night he looked sharp and focused in an impressive display. Number eight Gavin Coombes scored two tries for Munster with Jack O’Sullivan, Thomas Ahern, Shay McCarthy and Sean O’Brien also going over. Joey Carbery converted all six scores in their bonus-point win. Joe Roberts scored Scarlets’ try which Charlie Titcombe converted. Elsewhere, Edinburgh made Zebre Parma pay for a lack of discipline as they left it late to secure a 24-19 victory at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi. They trailed for the majority of the game due to an early Gonzalo Garcia try and the boot of Giovanni Montemauri, but they eventually wore the Italians down. They were awarded a penalty try in addition to scores from Boan Venter and Dave Cherry, and two conversions and a penalty from Ben Healy was enough to see them return home with four points.
