One Day, a 10-second scene and the cute café pulling in the queues
IT only appears on screen for ten seconds – so you wouldn’t think it would be that memorable a location.
But English cafe La Maison Highbury has seen huge queues since it featured in the hit Netflix show One Day.
Users of popular video-sharing app TikTok have flocked to the cafe where character Dexter Mayhew, played by Leo Woodall, works at in the penultimate episode of the 14-part series.
Despite its short on-screen appearance under the name ‘Cafe Belleville’, La Maison Highbury’s owner said there has been a big increase in footfall since the show’s release two weeks ago.
Mehmet Gerekli, told the Mail: ‘We have seen a big effect on customer numbers over the weekend and on social media too as it’s been a huge hit on Netflix.’
And the already large numbers queuing outside the cafe, located in north London, could grow even larger, as fans are planning a meet up at the cafe on July 15.
The series follows Dexter and Emma Morley, who meet on that date each year.
Underneath a video of the cafe, one TikTok user wrote: ‘The 15th of July is going to be a big day for this cafe, we must all meet there.’
Another said: ‘I’ve just booked to come to London to visit this cafe.’
The comment section is also flooded with users suggesting to one another, ‘Can we go to Dexter’s cafe?’
La Maison has been open for less than a year and filming for One Day started in December 2022, before the cafe itself even started trading.
And La Maison is not the only location from the series popular with TikTok users as fans have also rushed to Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, where Dexter and Emma were students, and Primrose Hill in London. Underneath a ‘One Day Edinburgh filming locations’ video which tells fans ‘you must take a selfie here’, the comment section was flooded with viewers pledging to visit.
One person wrote: ‘So we are all meeting in Edinburgh on the 15th
‘So we’re all meeting in Edinburgh?
of July? I’m coming for you Arthur’s Seat.’ One commenter even said: ‘I’m considering going to Edinburgh Uni after watching this show.’
In London, videos have been created sharing the precise location of other One Day landmarks including the Loco Caliente Mexican restaurant where Emma works, which is actually the Old Suffolk Punch pub in Hammersmith, west London.
