It is not the one thing you need to be able to play football. If you read the game well, and are reading triggers, it is not the be-all and end-all. ‘It is nothing against Vera with a point to prove, it is just a different approach and a different formation and it is up to us to go and perform it, if the coaching staff believe we can do it,’ Fahey said.
Having been injured for the Nations League campaign, this camp was Fahey’s first taste of Gleeson and her coaching staff and she’s impressed. ‘The whole set-up is so professional, so impressed from the first day that I came in, obviously missed the Nations League. But so impressed with the whole set-up.’
And she had plenty of praise for Kiernan, her clubmate, who made quite the impact off the bench. ‘Firstly, so delighted Leanne is back on the pitch. She was so unlucky, I don’t know if it was offside or not, but it was a great finish, and a great counterattacking move and great ball by Amber. But for Leanne, she’s had a tough time with injury and I am just so happy that she is back to her level.’
