He’s gong crazy! Oscar-winner Cillian set for Irish victory lap as he lands IFTA nod

AFTER a stellar awards season Cillian Murphy is in line for a victory lap on home soil after he was yesterday revealed as an IFTA nominee.

The Irish Film and Television Academy wards will take place on Saturday, April 20, with Emmy-winning broadcaste­r Baz Ashmawy on hosting duties.

The evening will see the winners announced across 28 categories.

In the Lead Actor category, Oscar-winner Murphy, 47, is in the running for his role in Oppenheime­r, and is joined by Barry Keoghan for Saltburn, Andrew Scott for All Of Us Strangers, Pierce Brosnan for The Last Rifleman, David Wilmot for Lies We Tell and Barry Ward for That They May Face The Rising Sun.

The talent on display across the Lead Actress in Film category boasts an impressive mix of leading ladies, including Jessie Buckley in Fingernail­s, Eve Hewson in Flora And Son, Saoirse Ronan in Foe, Agnes O’Casey in Lies We Tell, Bríd Brennan in My Sailor, My Love and Geraldine McAlinden in Verdigris.

RTÉ crime drama Kin has received 11 nomination­s, including Best Drama, as well as Lead Actor for Francis McGee and Sam Keeley, and Lead Actress for Clare Dunne. Kin is grouped with Blue Lights, Hidden Assets, Northern Lights, Obituary and The Woman in the Wall for Best Drama.

Gothic Irish tale Lies We Tell has received four nomination­s in total, including Best Film and Best Director for Lisa Mulcahy. The Best Film category is a competitiv­e one this year, with horror-thriller Double Blind, John Carney’s Flora And Son, quirky sci-fi fable LOLA, John McGahern’s That They May Face The Rising Sun and Patricia Kelly’s debut feature Verdigris all nominated for the prestigiou­s gong.
