KENNY AND MAY’S SWISS CHAT
ENDA Kenny is reported to have met with British Prime Minister Theresa May last night.
The Taoiseach is in Davos with Finance Minister Michael Noonan for an informal gathering of international leaders.
Mrs May is in the Swiss city to address the World Economic Forum on Britain’s global trade plans post-brexit.
Mr Kenny is said to have “coincidentally” run into the Prime Minister at a restaurant in the ski resort, resulting in a 10-minute chat between the pair.
In an interview with American news network CNBC yesterday, Mr Kenny again ruled out the prospect of an Irish election this year, insisting the Government is “stable”. Last night he delivered a speech to the heads of at least 45 global corporations at a dinner hosted by IDA Ireland.
The Taoiseach will meet executives from a range of companies, including Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg.
Meanwhile, Mr Noonan has said Ireland will “get its share” of companies leaving London as a result of Brexit.
He added the Central Bank has had “over 100 separate” enquiries from financial services companies in the
City of London about relocating to Ireland.
Mr Noonan said: “It depends on where the Brexit negotiations are trending. “But I don’t think they’ll wait until the end of the negotiations.”
