Macca suing to get his old songs bacca

- BY CHRISTOPHER BUCKTIN US Editor

SIR Paul Mccartney is suing Sony in a US test case over ownership of Beatles’ songs.

Macca has been trying to reclaim his back catalogue after Michael Jackson outbid him for the rights in the 80s.

The 267 songs were sold back to SONY/ATV by Jackson’s estate after his death.

Papers have been filed on Sir Paul’s behalf in New York over “copyright termination”, the right of songwriters to take back ownership of their works from music publishers.

The claim states Sir Paul 74, is seeking “quiet, unclouded title to his rights”.

Duran Duran lost a similar case after the UK High Court ruled contracts signed in the UK took precedence over their US rights.

SONY/ATV has called Sir Paul’s lawsuit “unnecessary, premature”.
