GROUNDS FOR CONCERN OVER DUBS VENUE

- BY BRENDAN FURLONG

HUGE questions hang over Dublin’s travels outside the capital for a provincial Championship game for the second year running.

The All-ireland champions are due to travel to either Netwatch Dr. Cullen Park or Innovate Wexford Park (left) to face Carlow or Wexford in the Leinster quarter-final.

Last year controversy erupted over the moving of the Laois/dublin game to Nowlan Park in Kilkenny rather than Portlaoise.

Now Wexford chairman Derek Kent, has cast doubt on their ability to stage such a fixture this year.

Dublin have 3000 season tickets holders, who will be entitled to access to the main stand at Innovate Wexford Park, which has a capacity of just over 4200. With sponsors tickets etc to be considered, it will leave considerably less than 1000 tickets available for Wexford supporters in that section of the ground.

Wexford Park has an overall capacity of just over 17,000, after a reduction under Health and Safety standards and county PRO PJ Howlin said: ‘I’m not sure if the game will be taken out of Wexford but it’s quite clear we will not be able to accommodate the demand from Wexford supporters for seats in the covered stand. What it really means is home fans will be sent to the uncovered seated terrace.”

Kent added that should Carlow qualify for the quarter-final their game with Dublin would be transferred to Portlaoise for similar reasons.
