My son did not plan to kill 150 in plane crash

Pilot dad’s claim lashed by families

THE father of Alps plane crash pilot Andreas Lubitz has denied his son planned to fly the German-wings jet into a mountain. On the second anniversary of the smash in which 150 were killed, Guenter Lubitz dismissed experts’ findings that the 27-yearold was solely responsible. Denying reports the pilot was depressed at the time of the crash, he said: “He suffered a period of depression between 2008 and 2009 but he got over that and regained his strength and joy of life. “Our son was a very responsible person. He had no reason to plan and carry out a suicide, and certainly not to take another 149 innocent people with him.” Victims’ families slammed his claims, and their timing. But he said: “We did not choose this day to hurt anyone. We too are relatives who lost a loved one.” Asked if he thought his son was innocent he said: “We are on the hunt for the truth.” He has hired aviation author Tim van Beveren to challenge official findings that Lubitz acted alone when he locked the cockpit of Flight 9525 and steered into a mountain in the French Alps. Mr Van Beveren denied the pilot had been treated for depression in hospital, and claimed anti-depressants found in Lubitz’s home were prescribed as he struggled with fears of losing his sight. He added: “There is no evidence he deliberately brought down this plane.”
