A GOLDEN CHANCE IN DUBAI

-

IT’S been a frustrating season in Dubai, interrupted by a broken wrist. Dhruba Selvaratnam’s horses have struggled all season. And it’s been a case of quality rather than quantity for me, with eight winners on the board. But I’m expecting a big run from Morawij in today’s Group 1 Golden Shaheen in Meydan. Third to Muarrab in this Group 1 last year, from a high draw, he won a Group 3 well on Super Saturday, when we flew from the stalls and made all. He’s drawn two today, is very quick away and felt in electric form when I sat on him during the week. I don’t know if Morawij is good enough to win at this level. But he’s in great form, ready to run a big race and, with the favourite drawn on the outside, I’m hoping he can at least finish in the frame again. My other mount Midnight Chica looks up against it in the UAE Derby. She finished second in the Oaks and is a nice, staying filly. But she has to improve at least 10lb to be involved today – she’s a filly for the future.
