I’LL MISS BATTLING RYAN

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

GAVIN PEERS had serious respect for the late Ryan Mcbride and believes the feeling was mutual. Whenever Sligo Rovers and Derry City met in North-west derbies, the duo would inevitably clash. “I’m normally aggressive at corners and I knew he didn’t like being hit,” recalled Peers. “So I’d go up to him and give him a sly one to take his focus off the ball – and he’d do the same to me at the other end. “There was a lot of respect, you’d go to him straight after the game and shake his hand. It’s very sad. “I spoke to him last year up in Derry on a night out after last game of the season and also at launches. He was a nice person. We had some battles.”
