AIDAN O’mahony dedicated his Dancing With The Stars win to his newborn daughter as he became the first winner of the RTE competition.

The former Kerry footballer, 37, lifted the Glitterball trophy despite notching up the lowest score from the judges with his professional dance partner Valeria Milova. Speaking after the show last night, Aidan said while he’s happy to have won, he can’t wait to go home to his baby daughter Lucia, who was born less than three weeks ago. He told the Irish Mirror: “For us and for me this week we were to come back and prove we were worthy to be in the final. “I can’t thank her enough for the last 12 weeks. She pushed me, she pushed me and some weeks we nearly killed each other. “But as I said from week one she definitely got the short straw because I know I’m very bad in front of the cameras and I was like a statue. “When we finished the last dance the legs were about to cave.” When asked who he dedicated his win to, Aidan replied: “My little lady Lucia. Daddy will be home in two days’ time.” Aidan’s wife Denise travelled up from Kerry to the TV studios in Bray to cheer on her other half just weeks after giving birth to their daughter. Denise spent her first Mother’s Day in the DWTS audience as the GAA star competed for the title. Red Rock actress Denise Mccormack scored perfect scores in all of her dances. Although the 41-year-old Dublin blonde failed to take home the crown with her partner Ryan Mcshane, she said she was nothing but delighted.

FANTASTIC

She added: “I feel ecstatic, I feel really happy. Aidan is such a fantastic, such an ambassador for young kids in this country. “He’s an amazing guy and I love him for bits. Tomorrow I’m going to sleep and probably sit down and process the whole thing. “I think that’s when it will hit me and I’ll probably get a bit sad that the journey is over.” Former Fair City actress Aoibhin Garrihy was the bookies’ favourite to be voted dancing queen but even with a total of 88 points she failed to secure the title.

The 29-year-old blonde said she was hoping Aidan would win. She said: “I’m delighted, he’s become a real pal in a brotherly kind of way. From day one I was cheering him on and he was doing the same for me.” Aidan impressed the judges with his two performances, dancing the American Smooth and salsa, scoring him 25 points for each dance. The buff sportsman was dressed as Superman as he scored a perfect 30 points for his show dance which featured some spectacular lifts. Speaking after his final dance, Aidan said: “For me it was all about this dance. It’s not about winning, it’s about going out on a high and showing people that I’ve been here for the last 12 weeks and I can dance.”
