PAUL: BLUES HAD LITTLE EXTRA IN TANK

- BY PAT NOLAN

PAUL FLYNN says Dublin would have had too much for Kerry if they had forced extra-time in the Allianz League final.

Kerry sealed a dramatic one-point win earlier this month after Dean Rock’s long range free rebounded off the post in what proved to be the last kick of the game, denying the Dubs a fifth successive title.

Speaking at the launch of Avonmore’s new Protein Milk, Flynn (right after final with Michael Darragh Macauley) said: “When it comes to the last phase, the last quarter, we know we have the mental resolve to try and pull it back.

“We always feel we do anyway, and we did when you think about it. It was the width of the post and we would have pulled the game back to a draw.

“If it went to extra-time, there would have been only one winner, in my eyes. I thought we would have definitely pulled through.

“But we just can’t be leaving it that late.”

Asked whether Kerry’s long-awaited victory over Dublin might flip the dynamic between the sides, Flynn responded: “It is a hard one, really. They might derive something from that, but for us, we can’t really think that.”
