DJ Kormac
Producer, DJ and big band leader Kormac is back with a stomping new track. The Beat caught up with the Dubliner ahead of his appearances at The Sugar Club this Sunday April 30 and Sea Sessions on Friday 23 June.
Hello Kormac, what’s new with you?
My new single, I Believe, is coming out on Friday so lots going on with that this week. We’ve a shiny new video and remixes to unveil over the next little while too.
When is the next gig?
The single launch party at The Sugar Club this Bank Holiday Sunday, April 30.
What has been your best gig so far?
Probably Glastonbury.
Tell us about your new/latest record?
I initially wrote the song to finish off my live sets with and it started going down really well at festivals so we thought we should put it out there. There’s a section at the end where people have taken to chanting the lyrics along with us, “I believe, I believe, I believe, I do believe”.
We played a show last week and I had seven thousand people chanting that back to me. Bizarre and amazing in equal measure.
Describe you music in one sentence.
Riotous, beat-y, jazz for dance floors (and headphones.)
What are you listening to at the moment?
An Andrew Hill record I bought myself for Record Store Day, the new Onra album on All City Records, the new Arca album and Creedence!
What Irish acts do you rate?
I rate loads of Irish acts but I’m particularly looking forward to hearing the New Jackson album and the Loah EP.
What has been your favourite moment as a musician?
Either writing and recording with Irvine Welsh or discovering the drinks were free.
What’s in store for you for the rest of 2017?
The new video is debuting next week, we’ve three great remixes of I Believe to share after that, then another new single, then I’ll be revealing the biggest, most ridiculously audacious and risky project I’ve ever attempted. for more Kormac information check out djkormac.com.
