JACKPOT FOR SLAV? SIGNING ANOTHER DIMITRI

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

SLAVEN BILIC wants West Ham to hit the transfer jackpot again by signing another Dimitri Payet. The Irons boss yesterday admitted his relief that his club’s rollercoaster campaign will come to a close at Burnley tomorrow. A poor summer transfer window was followed by troubles moving to the London Stadium and Payet’s strike action and transfer back to Marseille. But in his 18 months in east London, the maverick Frenchman supplied the X-factor – for a bargain £10.5million – before his £25m sale. And now Bilic, who will be entering the final year of his three-year contract, is seeking a repeat in a crowded transfer market. “Dimitri Payet was like hitting the jackpot!” he said. “When it was done it was done in one week, under the radar. “We did it before the big teams even started to think about it. “Those kind of deals are the best. But unfortunately now in football you can’t count on doing that every week. “Those players lift your whole team and your season. But they are very difficult to find now. I have spoken with many managers after games this season and the players who are on our list are on their lists too. “We are all aiming for the same names.” West Ham’s search for a new striker has seem them linked with Kelechi Iheanacho and Jermain Defoe. “We are not looking for the Griezmanns,” Bilic (above) added. “We would like them but we are realistic. Last year we tried to do something like that – we were in talks with Alexandre Lacazette, and maybe we spent too much time hoping. Then we missed some No.2 and No.3 targets.”
