CHAIRMAN BLAMES STEWARDS NOT FANS

Loyalists Harris and Craig

- BY MIKE WALTERS

JOHN BERYLSON absolved Millwall’s pitch invaders after Wembley’s £250,000 security blanket to contain them unravelled and asked: “Where were the stewards?” The Millwall chairman demanded to know how his club’s fans added to their roll of shame unimpeded. And the FA will launch an investigation into the first pitch invasion since Wembley reopened 10 years ago, which left match-winner Steve Morison accusing them of hijacking his finest hour after the Lions’ 1-0 win over Bradford in the League One play-off final. Heartbroken Bantams players and manager Stuart Mccall had to endure pathetic braggarts goading them and police made 12 arrests at the game – but Berylson (above) pointed the finger at inadequate crowd control. He said: “I was watching with my former chief executive of 10 years who now works for the FA, Andy Ambler, and I said, ‘Andy, where are the stewards?’ “There was not one steward trying to keep those people in place, so we have to look at that. But the most important thing is how easily they went off the pitch again. There was no violence.” Morison was upset by the uninvited guests who photobombed his glory, saying: “I’ve never been so high and so low in such a short space of time. “Those people who ruined it for everyone else should hang their heads in shame.” Bradford boss Mccall revealed he came close to “clocking” the morons who taunted him as he consoled his players on the pitch.
