Sir Elton ‘feeling good’ after infection scare

-

SIR Elton John revealed he is “feeling good” following a stint in intensive care. The music legend, 70, premiered music videos for three of his iconic songs at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday. It was his first appearance since he was struck down with a “bacterial infection” last month, which resulted in him spending two nights in intensive care. Sir Elton was travelling on a flight home from Santiago, Chile, when he became violently ill. Yesterday saw the culmination of a Youtube competition in his honour. And as he left the venue, he told fans: “I feel good.” His husband David Furnish, 54, added: “He’s doing good. He’s made a great recovery. I’ve been looking after him. He’s been a good patient.” Following his stay in hospital, Elton released a statement with a spokesperson claiming he was “enjoying spending time with David and the kids. He’s also using the time to catch up on even more new music. He’s also really looking forward to being back on stage at Twickenham.” Elton was in high spirits as he attended the press conference on the French Riviera to launch videos for his classics Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man and Bennie And The Jets, released in 1971, 1972 and 1973 respectively. Sitting alongside his writing partner Bernie Taupin, he blasted the MTV generation for not being “real artists”. He said: “We were before the MTV generation and I’m glad we were because we were real artists. “The MTV generation brought along a lot of people who were great, but a lot of people who just made videos. A lot of the artist went out of the music.” He also said he wants a new generation of musicians to be good because the world is “s*** at the moment”. In a Q&A with film director Spike Lee, he said: “Why we wanted to do this was to make our music available to a newer generation, but also to give the chance to young people. “I do a radio show every week and I’m looking for new music. The new makes you feel great. “And you find something by someone new and young, and it’s great, and it inspires you. “The young inspire you. I know the old and I love the old, but I’m looking for the new. “The new is going to be the next generation and we need the next generation to be good because the world is s*** at the moment. “I love the energy and adrenaline the new kids bring. That’s the adrenaline that we had when we were young kids.”
