REVENGE PORN SICKO DODGES PRISON TERM
Judge slams video as ‘despicable act’
A SICKO who uploaded a video of him and a woman having sex on to a hardcore porn website avoided a jail term yesterday.
The woman had no knowledge the 10-minute recording, which clearly identified them, had been made. A judge described revenge porn thug Karl Bailey’s actions as “despicable” but decided community service was more suitable than jail. The Dubliner also has to pay his victim €2,000. Balbriggan District Court heard when the victim made gardai aware of the video on Pornhub. com, they contacted the website to remove it. But shop worker Bailey uploaded it again within three weeks. He only removed the video after the victim and her family contacted him. The defendant made full admissions to gardai that he uploaded the video twice. The victim, who did not appear in court, wrote a letter to Judge Dermot Dempsey to explain the profound effect the incidents had on her. Bailey, of Balbriggan Road in Skerries, pleaded guilty to harassing the woman on dates last year. Defence counsel said the 26-year-old offered no excuse for his actions and apologised to the victim. Bailey’s lawyer added: “He has been suffering from depression for some time and has been prescribed medication. He is ashamed and embarrassed and it was completely out of character. “He was using the website as a means of escape as he has difficulties dealing with his emotions.” A Probation Report stated the defendant didn’t realise the seriousness of his action and that it was known as “revenge porn”. The Probation Services deemed the defendant’s risk of re-offending as “low” and said he was suitable for 240 hours community service in lieu of four months in prison. Judge Dempsey ordered he continue with weekly counselling and added: “Personally, I find it hard to believe he didn’t realise the seriousness of what he did. “It’s a very serious matter with serious consequences. He needs to grow up and mature a bit. “This is a despicable act that has caused untold damage to the victim.”
