HOT FOR COT

Glory can turn up the heat in Temple Stakes

- NEWSBOY

COTAI GLORY (nap) can enjoy a change of luck to lift the Group 2 Temple Stakes (4.05, ITV4) at Haydock.

Charlie Hills’ speedster made his return to action at Newmarket on 2,000 Guineas day, finishing behind Washington DC (second), Goldream (third), Kachy (fourth), Priceless (fifth) and Alpha Delphini (eighth) when ninth to Marsha in the Palace House Stakes. But the result doesn’t tell anything like the full story. The five-year-old was almost brought to his knees when stumbling as the stalls opened and, from that point, had no chance. He has never won at this level but Cotai Glory has twice scored in Group 3 company and his neck second in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last June proves he is up to the job. South African star Gavin Lerena takes the mount and, with Hills (left) in top form, Cotai Glory is the value bet to take the first prize back to Lambourn.

TODAY’S Silver Bowl (2.55 Haydock) features some strong statistics — the most relevant being today’s winner must fit these criteria: Previous winner over at least seven furlongs Won between once and three times Last raced no more than 31 days ago Finished first or second last time out Not drawn in stall one Taking those trends into account we are down to a shortlist of Mustarrid,

Naval Warfare, Graphite Storm and Private Mission.

The last three named are all drawn high — an advantage here — but none look to have the scope for improvement as MUSTARRID. He comes here on the back of a head defeat by City Of Joy, who could have been well treated on a line through earlier Newbury form. Have 2pts win at 9-1 with Ladbrokes.
