A TOWN has rallied around the family of a tragic schoolgirl who died suddenly as her grieving dad recovers from cancer.

Big-hearted residents in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, have clubbed together to pay for the funeral of little Maja Dlowacki who passed away on Tuesday. Their target was €2,000 – but nearly €9,000 has poured in to a Gofundme page. A friend of her Polish-born parents Iwona and Krzysztos told Cork’s 96FM Opinion Line they are trying to help the family with funeral expenses. Sophia Lankiewicz said: “Maja comes from a Polish family who have been living in Carrigtwohill for the last 10 years. “She was a lovely, beautiful soul. A joyous girl. “Maja just started doing her infants class and last weekend she was playing at a birthday party and unfortunately on Tuesday, she passed away tragically. “It was very sudden. She got a very high fever. I know her mother managed to get it down but then her condition started to get worse and she was turning blue. “They called the ambulance and she died on the way to hospital.” Sophia explained Maja’s family is going through a “terrible time” trying to organise her funeral in Poland and a Mass in Co Cork. She added: “We do not know when as they are still waiting for the hospital to carry out a postmortem. “What we are looking to do is support them as much as we can. We only started it last night [Wednesday] and the response has been amazing. We are so grateful.” To help Maja’s family, go to www.gofundme.com/ majas-fund.
