Dis­si­dents in jus­tice staff death threats

PRO­BA­TION of­fi­cers in the North have been placed un­der death threat by dis­si­dent repub­li­cans. Work­ers were in­formed of the warn­ing yes­ter­day and set up a meet­ing with the PSNI to en­sure their per­sonal se­cu­rity. It is un­der­stood the great­est threat is against staff liv­ing and work­ing in repub­li­can ar­eas. Pro­ba­tion Board of North­ern Ire­land has 400 of­fi­cers and qual­i­fied so­cial work­ers em­ployed within the crim­i­nal jus­tice sys­tem. Chief ex­ec­u­tive Ch­eryl La­mont said the threat was “un­prece­dented”. She added: “Ev­ery­thing we do is about pro­tect­ing peo­ple and en­sur­ing there are fewer vic­tims of crime.”
