Dissidents in justice staff death threats
PROBATION officers in the North have been placed under death threat by dissident republicans. Workers were informed of the warning yesterday and set up a meeting with the PSNI to ensure their personal security. It is understood the greatest threat is against staff living and working in republican areas. Probation Board of Northern Ireland has 400 officers and qualified social workers employed within the criminal justice system. Chief executive Cheryl Lamont said the threat was “unprecedented”. She added: “Everything we do is about protecting people and ensuring there are fewer victims of crime.”
