WENGER CALLS FOR NEW START

- BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

ARSENE WENGER has urged Arsenal to “restart” their Premier League campaign at Everton tomorrow. The Gunners went some way to putting their defeat at Watford behind them by grinding out a 1-0 Europa League win at Red Star Belgrade on Thursday. And Wenger backed his side to prove once and for all that they have bounced back. He said: “We responded against Red Star Belgrade. We have to consider our global performances over a longer period to show we can restart in the Premier League as well.” Against Everton, Arsenal will be returning to where it all started to go wrong last season. They went to the Toffees on the back of a 14-game, near fourmonth unbeaten run in the Premier League and chasing leaders Chelsea. But they slumped to a 2-1 defeat after going ahead last December, lost to Manchester City the following week and never recovered. Wenger said: “It is a different game and a different season. We want to focus on the quality of the game we want to produce together.” The Arsenal boss named a mix-and-match side to face Red Star. Jack Wilshere starred against the Serbians and made a case to keep his place but Wenger will make changes. He said: “It is impossible to come from a game of that intensity and play. Of course I left 10 or 11 players at home. “I decided to rotate at the start of the season and will continue to do so. It is a bit harsh on the team picked in Belgrade, but the time will come when the rotation can go another way.” Danny Welbeck will miss two to three weeks due to a groin injury but Laurent Koscielny, Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey, are available.
