KEIREN HITS OUT AS OWLS FANS FIGHT

-

KEEPER Keiren Westwood has called for a united front after Sheffield Wednesday fans fought among themselves.

There were ugly scenes in the visiting section at Pride Park as the Owls’ misery continued – going down to Derby after Glenn Loovens was sent off only four minutes into the game.

Boss Carlos Carvalhal is under immense pressure after his side lost for the fourth time out of five.

And Westwood, who had a heated debate with fans at the finish, said: “Just to clear up a misunderstanding, there was no confrontation, no argument, no aggression. Nothing. Just a discussion with a fan at the end of a frustrating match.

“Us as a team understand the frustration from supporters. We too are frustrated after the last few weeks. The feedback I got was there was fighting between the supporters today.

“Listen... that’s the last thing that needs to be happening.

“There’s kids and families at matches, and safety is paramount.

“If anything, in tough times we should be together, united and try to be as one. As a team, as a support and as a club.”

Derby won without being anywhere near their best after Matej Vydra (above) stuck away a penalty following Loovens’ red card for a foul on the striker. Sub Bradley Johnson added a second.

New signing Joe Ledley, who has provided extra stability in midfield, said: “We have to be confident before every game and go out with the aim of performing to the best of our ability.”
