The freak crash happened in Buncrana, Co Donegal, at about 9am yesterday.

It is understood the vehicle, belonging to a local construction firm, lost power as it travelled down the steep road, locally known as Hill Head.

The tractor apparently careered to the right across the oncoming carriageway

Neighbours were left shocked and concerned for the elderly resident, in her 70s, who lives alone at Lisowen Avenue, just a five-minute walk from

Buncrana town centre. She was seen by two public health nurses shortly after the accident.

Neighbours said she heard a loud bang at the time of the crash but was unhurt.

However, she regularly stands at her front pillar to chat to neighbours and is said to be shocked and worried following the accident.

One local resident said: “It’s a miracle nobody was killed. The tractor could Vehicle stopped feet from house have gone into the front of the house and there could have been children or anyone walking in front of the house when it happened. It’s terrible.”

Just a short time before the shocking incident the nearby road would have been much busier with school and commuter traffic.

Employees of the construction company quickly worked to free the tractor.

It is understood the driver escaped uninjured.
