Orla’s relatives: Mcclintock responsible for devastation we feel
THE family of Orla O’reilly said yesterday there is no excuse for anyone to get behind the wheel while under the influence of drink or drugs. Speaking on behalf of the family after the inquest, solicitor Fiona Baxter said: “On Friday the 13th November 2015 our lives were shattered when Orla was killed as she travelled to work.
“Personal responsibility for the consequences of driving under the influence and speeding should never be excused. A driver who speeds or drives while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and then crashes that car into both deceased had suffered multiple injuries. Mr Mcclintock’s blood/ alcohol reading was 229 milligrams. Dr Mccauley explained the drink driving limit was 50 milligrams of alcohol to blood, which meant Mr Mcclintock was almost four-and-ahalf times over the drinkdriving limit.
In the case of Mr Mcclintock, the jury returned a finding or death due to multiple injuries. In the case of Ms O’reilly, the jury returned a finding or death due to multiple injuries and returned a finding of misadventure.

Orla was due to marry Jimmy Mckinney in October, 2016.
The couple spoke by phone just before she was killed.
