HIS MUM SAYS I’M SLEEPING WITH HIS DAD

-

Dear Coleen

I am currently living with my in-laws, as my partner is away for a while. The problems started soon after I moved in with them when his mum began to suggest I was having an affair with her husband.

Her only ‘evidence’ for this is that we can have a laugh and a joke together and she can’t join in because she is so uptight.

It’s hard enough trying to get used to her ways, but to be constantly watched and have the sly comments is getting too much.

I can’t afford to move out yet, so what can I do to stop these ridiculous accusations?

Can you help?

Awkward! What does your partner have to say about it? And don’t you have any other options at all, like staying with someone from your own family?

I think if it’s a short-term thing, then you can probably grin and bear it for a while, and make sure you’re out of the house as much as possible. But if it’s something that could drag on with no end in sight, then you should try to come up with an alternative plan.

I appreciate it’s hard to turn round and say, ‘Relax, I’m not after your hubby’ and then carry on living there in peace and harmony.

Tell your partner how you feel and that it’s not working out. I don’t think he can expect you to stay there if it’s that awkward.
