Melody to strike the right note

- BY CHRIS BEECH

GLENS MELODY is tipped to win at the first time of asking over timber for Willie Mullins in the Thurles Maiden hurdle today.

The Kings Theatre filly ran some fine races in bumpers last season and proved her wellbeing when a good second at Gowran earlier this month.

The filly has shown plenty of talent and can win here en route to better things.

Magic of Light will know her job well and is tipped to make a winning start to her chasing career in the opening mares chase.

Jessica harrington’s horses invariably jump well and the selection will handle what is likely to be slow ground.

It’s a race which might not take much winning and robert Power’s mount, which won over hurdles last season, has plenty going for her.

Gordon Elliott was dealt a major blow yesterday after he lost his star mare Fayonagh to a fatal injury on the gallops.

he can gain a measure of compensation by saddling a brace of winners, initiated by the consistent Carrig Cathal in the two mile and six beginners chase.

Elliott has a fine strike rate with Jamie Codd and the pair can strike in the concluding bumper with rakhine state.

The he’llberemembered hurdle looks an interesting contest and it can go the way of Monksland for Noel Meade and sean Flanagan.

The selection has developed into a fine horse for connections and he should be all the better for a recent pipe opener on the flat at Punchestown last week.

he is well suited by the race conditions and is preferred to Lieutenant Colonel.
