Man killed & woman left badly injured in road crash
GARDAI have launched an investigation after a man was killed and young woman seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash early yesterday.
The silver convertible they were in struck a tree at Woodcock Hill, Meelick, Co Clare, around 3.40am.
Sources said two passers-by alerted emergency services.
The male driver of the crashed car, believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardai have yet to name the victim, whose body was taken to University Hospital Limerick for a postmortem.
Sources said the front seat passenger, a 25-year old woman, was semiconscious at the scene.
She was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick with serious head injuries.
A Garda statement said: “Officers in Mayorstone, Limerick, are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision in Meelik, Co Clare on October 30.
“The collision occurred at approximately 3.40am at Woodcock Hill, Meelick. “The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene, his body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick.
“The female passenger was taken to hospital in Limerick with injuries described as serious.”
