FIREFIGHTERS were called out to dozens of blazes yesterday as Halloween celebrations took place.

The Dublin Fire Brigade specifically warned revellers to stay clear of bonfires for fear they contained aerosols or other materials that could explode and cause injury.

The service tweeted a picture of a pyre in Finglas and wrote: “Bonfires can contain aerosols & other dangerous waste, keep clear to avoid injury #Dublin.”

It also set up an interactive map showing how many incidents were taking place in the city.

Dozens of bonfires were attended to, along with pallets, sofas and bushes reported to be ablaze.

Fire crews also attended and extinguished a blaze off the M1 near Lusk with engines from Swords and Skerries fire stations.

Meanwhile, ESB reported faults which left hundreds without power in Limerick.

A map showed 438 customers were affected by the outages, while the Limerick Leader reported shoppers in Dooradoyle’s Crescent Shopping Centre were plunged into darkness.

More than 100 customers in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, were also affected.

There were also faults in Louth and Cork and nearly 100 customers were affected in Edenderry, Co Offaly.

ESB’S message stated: “We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible.”
