SNOW WAY WE’LL HAVE A WHITE CHRISTMAS..
Weather expert Jean melts our hopes...
THE chances of a white Christmas this year have melted away, says RTE weather expert Jean Byrne.
With the special day just 41 sleeps away, betting has already started on whether snow will fall.
But Kerry native Jean, who joined the station almost 20 years ago, said it’s very unlikely.
She added: “To put it in context, it has only happened 12 times in 71 years.
“Our weather tends to come in from the Atlantic and we tend to have wind and rain but it did happen in 2009 and 2010.
“It can happen but we won’t know until 10 days ahead. It’s as likely as one year as the next.”
The meteorologist, who is well known for her edgy style choices, told how fashion is one of her passions. She said: “I love art and architecture, all forms of art really.
“For me clothing and my style is just an extension of that, chosing stuff that’s interesting, suits me and that I like to wear.” Jean was launching the TK Maxx Christmas campaign. A limited number of bespoke, two-foot-long White Christmas snow globes will be hidden on the shelves in stores nationwide. Lucky shoppers who find one will be treated to a delivery of real snow to their homes.
Meanwhile, notoriously private Byrne said she wouldn’t rule out appearing on RTE’S Dancing with the Stars.
She added: “I don’t know because there are pros and cons.
“I have been known to do some twirling in the privacy of my own home.”
Asked whether she still receives fan mail, Jean said: “In recent years letters are nearly a thing of the past. Marriage proposals? I haven’t had any in quite a while.”
