TODAY FM star Muireann O’connell is hotly tipped to permanently take over from broadcaster Al Porter.

Following social media claims of inappropriate behaviour against him, producers of the Olympia Theatre Christmas Pantomime yesterday confirmed the 24-yearold funnyman is also stepping aside from his lead role.

A statement from public relations firm Pat Egan Ma n a g e m e n t and Stuart O’connor of Spotlight Productions said: “Due to o recent developments Al Porter r is standing aside from his role e in this year’s pantomime Polly And The Beanstalk at the Olympia Theatre.”

Meanwhile, Today FM and TV3 star Muireann has been drafted in to host the lunchtime slot for the rest of the week.

A source told the Irish Mirror yesterday: “She will take over from Al and it’s very likely she’ll be the permanent replacement.” On Sunday the Blind Date host resigned from Today FM, where he had presented a lunchtime show since February this year, after a l l eg a t i o ns of inappropri at e behaviour.

Gardai confirmed to the Irish Mirror yesterday they have not received any official complaints against Porter.

The comedian said that “while my conduct, which had been in keeping with my flamboyant and outrageous public persona, may be regarded as offensive and unacceptable by many people, I at no time intended to upset anyone”.

He added: “I am truly sorry for any distress I may have caused.”
