The woman told the trial of the 36-year-old Dubliner she thought he was taking her for a coffee when he picked her up in his car.

He then drove her to a secluded field at UCD’S campus where his demeanour changed completely and he became like “a monster”.

She told the court she feared for her life as he attacked her and thought she would be raped.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to sexual assault on July 23, 2014.

Shortly after noon yesterday, having deliberate­d for around 90 minutes, the jury of six men and six women returned a unanimous guilty verdict.

Neither the attacker or victim showed any reaction.

Judge Cormac Quinn declared the man a sex offender and remanded him in continuing custody to December 15 for sentencing. The woman, now 35, his told the trial she has come to Ireland just a month before the attack to learn English and was using Tinder as a way to meet people and practice speaking English.

After weeks of communicat­ing with the accused on Tinder and Whatsapp, she arranged to meet him, believing they were going for a coffee.

Her attacker later told gardai he saw the meeting as a “hook up” for sex.

The court heard he picked her up in his blue BMW and drove to the secluded field at the UCD campus where he sexually assaulted her.
