Amber thanks her fans after Kem break-up

- BY MEL EVANS

LOVE Island’s Amber Davies has broken her silence after splitting with Kem Cetinay.

The pair found romance on reality TV but it seems their hectic schedules spelled disaster.

Only 18 weeks after they won the ITV2 series – splitting the €56,000 prize – their love wasn’t meant to be and on Sunday they revealed they were breaking up.

Amber, 20, has thanked people for their support in the wake of her split with 21-year-old Kem.

She said: “Would just like to say I am incredibly overwhelmed by everyone’s lovely messages and comments.

The RTE presenter said having a child later in life has had its benefits but there was a downside.

The Today Show star said: “I was nearly 44 when Cal was born and for the first year I was in bits.

“But the one thing about being an older parent is that you’ve been through life and you are more practical and levelheaded.

“The downside is John and I never really fought before we became parents but then it was all about who did what.

“On the plus side is the fact you’ll never be in love with anyone as much as your own child.”

The 47-year-old said she doesn’t suffer from “mammy guilt” after returning to broadcasting when her son was a tot.

The Aran woman added: “I went back to work when Cal was four months old. I ran out the door, happily, because I knew he would be fine.

“I believe the more people a child is around the better, especially if they are an only child. So I don’t have the guilt thing, maybe I’m really a man.

CHILDMINDER

“In the morning the childminder comes and Cal is really happy and John is good with Cal. He has to be.”

Later this month Derrane and her Today Show co-host Daithi O Se will present a bilingual special on RTE Radio One – Maura and Daithi Um Nollaig and Gaeilgeoir.

When quizzed about her long-term plans she said would love to land her own radio talk show.

Speaking to the RTE Guide, she added: “I love this business and am very happy in it and the day I’m not I won’t be in it anymore.

“I was in Rwanda this summer with Bothar and having worked in news, that was familiar and interesting and it gave a taste for documentary work.

“What I really want to do is radio so who knows where this Christmas show with Daithi might lead to.”

Derrane also ruled out speculation she may be in contention to waltz her way on to RTE’S Dancing With The Stars.

She said: “I need to be training for a few hours every day and that’s not going to happen. So it’s not an option.”
