Corrie Anna to fight Phelan to the death
CORONATION Street star Debbie Rush has hinted that her character Anna Windass could be killed off from the soap in January as she fights to defeat evil Pat Phelan.
The Weatherfield waitress has had to withstand a horrific few years on the street at the hands of evil builder Phelan as he forced her to have sex with him then framed her for Seb Franklin’s accident.
Now Debbie – who is quitting after nine years on the cobbles – has told how the nation is backing her to get revenge and to see the end of Phelan.
She says: “Everyone wants Anna to bring him down. I still get little old ladies to young lads shouting ‘Oi, Anna, when you gonna get Phelan?’ So everyone wants him done in, and they all want Anna to do it.”

Debbie believes that it’s important to call the hardhitting storyline what is it.
She said: “As a woman, I know there has been a debate for some time over did he rape her or didn’t he rape her?
“Well, he did, because she was coerced into having sex with him to protect her family. We’ve just done the Bethany storyline and the nation is on Bethany’s side and knows she was groomed and raped. Anna was a grown woman who was groomed and raped.
“That’s the way I’ve played it and why, for me, Anna would be the one to bring him down with justice.”
Asked if she has any plans to return in the future, Debbie points out: “Well, it would depend on whether Anna is dead or alive...”
So would she mind if her character was killed off? Not at all! “I said it was up to the writers to do whatever they liked – whatever is best, even if the door is shut permanently. I wasn’t bothered either way.”
Sadly, that sounds like things could end tragically for Anna. Let’s hope she sticks it to Phelan first. Phelan threatens Anna
