KYLIE DANGEROUS

Warnings over toxic fake make-up

- BY EDEL HUGHES

CONSUMERS are being warned not to buy toxic counterfeit cosmetics this Christmas including fake Kylie Jenner make-up.

Traces of lead and arsenic were found during tests carried out by the HSE on 728 items seized by Health Products Regulatory Authority.

Among the potentially dangerous items confiscated were imitation Kylie Jenner and Urban Decay cosmetics.

They included the Kylie Holidayburgundy and Bronze eyeshadow palettes, Kylie Matte liquid lipstick and lip liner, and the hugely popular Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes.

Many of the products had been bought online and were seized by Revenue staff when imported into the country, while others were sold at markets and trade shows.

Eyeshadows and lip products were the most common counterfeit goods. The HPRA has advised Irish consumers not to buy any of these items falsely linked to the US reality TV star as they could pose a serious risk to their health.

Cosmetics compliance manager Aoife Farrell said yesterday: “The suppliers of these products are unconcerned about the health of the consumers who purchase them. We can’t emphasise enough the need for consumers to be vigilant when purchasing cosmetics this Christmas.

“While they may be sold at a cheaper cost than legitimate beauty products, it is never worth gambling with your health when buying these products.”

The HPRA also pointed out genuine Kylie Cosmetics are only available for sale from the beauty mogul’s US website and other high-end cosmetics are usually only for sale in high street stores and pharmacies.
