COTT TAKES BIG POP AT HARRY THE SPENDTHRIFT

- BY JAMES NURSEY

STEVE COTTERILL says Harry Redknapp has left a “very unbalanced” squad at Birmingham after admitting they have wasted money.

Veteran boss Redknapp brought in 14 new players in the summer, including four loans. But he was axed in September after just one League win in eight games.

Successor Cotterill has since managed only two wins in nine games ahead of today’s trip to Fulham.

They have scored just three goals under Cotterill (above) following the summer decision to sell striker Clayton Donaldson to Sheffield United.

Cotterill, who has already sent loanee Liam Walsh back to Everton, is unimpressed with the club’s transfer activity.

He said: “We have ended up very unbalanced – quite a few players in certain areas here and not enough in others.

“We are not full of goals. The only person I can remember getting 15-plus goals is Clayton.

“There has been a lot of money spent but I don’t know whether we have got anything that is necessarily that much better.”

Cotterill is desperate for reinforcements next month but says the club, owned by Trillion Trophy Asia, must not make the same mistake of bringing in players for the sake of it.

He added: “We have to look to probably strengthen the squad anyway and certainly rejig and balance it.

“But if we do some business in January, it has to be better than what we have got.”
