HOWE YOU HIT BACK CERTAINLY IS AN ART

- BY DANIEL SHELDON

EDDIE HOWE has challenged Harry Arter to recover from his World Cup hangover by getting back to his best form for Bournemouth.

Midfielder Arter has suffered a dramatic slump in form since the Republic or Ireland’s crushing play-off defeat to Denmark and was dropped for last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Boss Howe said: “Harry is an outstanding player and he has been such a good player for us.

“The disappointment of losing out on the World Cup opportunity and going through those experiences may have potentially knocked him a little bit.

“But you want that hurt to then fire those feelings you need to come back to prove people wrong and have that fight he is renowned for.”

Bournemouth travel to Roy Hodgson’s rejuvenated Crystal Palace today, looking to end the Eagles’ four-game unbeaten run.

The Cherries then face a run of games against the Premier League’s top four and Howe knows he needs an on-song Arter for those.

He added: “Getting that fire back is absolutely everything to Harry.

“We absolutely need him back to his best as he is a difference-maker for us.”

Howe praised referee Jon Moss after he admitted he should have awarded Bournemouth a penalty against Saints.

Howe will be without midfielder Adam Smith for his side’s trip today after Moss dealt him his fifth yellow card of the campaign for adjudged simulation.

But Smith revealed Moss apologised to him for the booking, and said he should have awarded the Cherries a spot-kick against their south coast rivals instead.

Howe labelled the referee’s failure to award his side a penalty as a “really poor decision” but believes Moss should be applauded for holding his hands up.

“The referee deserves credit for that,” added the Cherries’ chief last night.

“I am not going to criticise him for admitting that he made a mistake.

“All you can ask is that people reflect, analyse and try and improve themselves – as I say to any of my players who make a mistake.”
